We are living through particularly stressful times.

The technological, social and political changes are rapid and intense for even for people with the most solid nervous systems. It is, however, estimated that as many as 20 percent of the population are considered “highly sensitive”. 13 million people have been impacted by trauma. 16 percent of the population are using addiction related behaviors to cope with their stress. These folks all have something in common.

They are living with sensitive nervous systems.

The “Blue Life” Concept.

The “Blue Life”concept comes from a training I did related to trauma. My teacher used a simple color scheme. RED represented a nervous system activated by stress and BLUE to represent a calm and resourced nervous system. He taught that people can develop a lot of agency over the state of their nervous system by finding the right resources and developing the appropriate self-regulatory practices.

This idea got me thinking more broadly about what it might mean to engage various dimensions of one’s life (Relationships, work, mindfulness, home environment, food, media, personal stories and mindsets etc) to influence that red/blue dynamic and optimize them for more calm and regulation.

I call this work the Blue Life Project.
